I worked as a mentor and educator in Big Tech before hearing about TSG through a friend. We were doing some of the same things in two rather different fields, but I wasn’t creating the impact I’d hoped for. TSG clicked for me both culturally and as a space where my ideas could flourish. I’m terrible at leaving well-enough alone and found kinship with the company’s leadership, driven by the mantra, “The best idea wins.”
I love the openness to theory craft and optimization. With every new task we take on, I like to ask why it was done the way it was done before—then gut and rebuild the process. We challenge each other to improve and grow; no idea is too large or too small.
I am heavily inspired by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. While I appreciate his acting and musicianship, I am most enthralled by his production company, HitRecord, which encourages creative talent to collaborate on large-scale projects together. With this project, he makes an important point about our future: our attention is being fought for on many sides but when we make art, our attention is our own and with it we can bring something new to the world. We have a lot in common but I see the man as further down the same path, and this gives me motivation to blaze more of my own trail.
I’ve been a small fish in two big oceans—professional music for 15 years and acting for 8—but I don’t write home about most of it. That said, I was in a movie with Kevin Bacon’s daughter, Sosie, so if you play “6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” you’re 3rd Degree for knowing me!
I’m a polyglot—a speaker of multiple languages. I’m currently studying Mandarin Chinese to teach my daughters, which will be language #10 for me. I play three musical instruments and have near perfect-pitch. I can code in three programming languages. I’ve studied sword and martial arts for a total of eight years in Aikido, Kung Fu, Fencing, Kendo, and Tai Chi for Chinese broad sword and saber. Where do I find the time?
I’m terrible at getting outside, but to avoid cabin fever and get the babies some fresh air, we’ve been making daily outings. We find parks, abandoned shopping centers, and scenic vistas where we can be safely distanced from others and spend quality time exploring and teaching the kids about the world. The time outdoors has gotten me to slow down and appreciate my surroundings while making us all healthier—physically and mentally.
